Editorial Reviews
This strange, 1985 experiment by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) starred the up-and-coming Tom Cruise in a fairy-tale world of dwarfs and unicorns and demons. After the horn of a unicorn is broken, darkness and winter descend upon the world. Cruise's character, helped along by a magic sprite played by David Bennent (The Tin Drum), descends into hell to save paradise. This movie is almost a classic case of art direction gone amok. The somewhat amorphous Cruise doesn't lend much dramatic focus or artistic definition, but the drama between Tim Curry's satanic majesty and Mia Sara's character, who becomes a sort of princess of the netherworld, is pretty captivating. A mixed experience all around that makes one wish it had been more successful. --Tom Keogh

The restored soundtrack is much better than the release version (2009-01-07)

It makes it feel more mythical than the cheesy 80's rock version that I saw when I was younger. Don't worry the old one is still on there if you want to hear it.

Legend- DVD (2008-11-27)

This DVD was a great buy. I paid an excellent price for "Legend" and was very satisfied with the picture quality. The movie was brand new and in perfect condition. This is a classic old school fantasy flick. It has mythical creatures, fairies, magic and is a timeless tale of good versus evil. You will love the effects, wardrobe, and costumes, as well as the storyline.

Great movie (2008-10-21)

I've had this on VHS for years and finally decided it was time to buy it on d.v.d. Tim Curry plays one of my all time favorite devils.

U.S. version is a more sound movie (2008-10-20)

Hello,
Just recieved and reviewed these two version's of "Legend", I owned the U.S.
version on VHS for sometime. And shared with friend's. So now I finally saw the director's cut. And for me and a couple friends this cut didn't really add anything to the story and Jerry Goldsmith's music doesn't enhance the story. Tangerine Dream I feel is way more appropiate for this fantasy tale
it fit's the feel of the story It makes it feel more dream-like.
That's all Mike

Them's some big horns, Mr Curry (2008-10-19)

Never saw this when it came out years ago, bought the VHS originally to check out another Ridley Scott vehicle. For me, it does project a true fantasy "escape" world. Some incredible sets were made and dressed to create a version of a perfect natural world. Also some dark and forboding sets representing a hell of sorts. The story is sort of an Adam and Eve thing, with the parts played by the young cute people. I was eager to finally see the director's cut, with Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack. Sorry, but it didn't click with me. For some reason it took the experience away from a fantasy escape to a story more based in reality. Maybe the reason I have enjoyed this film over the years (the original) is that it reawakens the small eyes big in wonder boy inside of me. Cruise is young and unformed at this stage. Mia Sara makes a sweet princess, but when she gets dressed up in her "evil" black outfit, all I can say is YOWSA!. I say check it out.
