Editorial Reviews
Peter Jackson proves that if gory is funny, then excessive gory is downright hysterical. As our hapless hero wades through an ankle-deep puddle of blood and entrails, brandishing a lawnmower like a portable Cuisinart at the climax of this zombie-fest, you'll either be screaming with laughter or fleeing in disgust. Timothy Balme stars as the shy mama's boy Lionel, whose controlling shrew of a mother (Elizabeth Moody) starts rotting away, literally, with a vague supernatural disease. Mother dies but refuses to stay down, rising as a flesh-eating zombie infecting everyone she bites. Lionel tries to hide her in the basement, but the victims keep piling up and finally break out when Lionel's blackmailing uncle (a grotesque, leering Ian Watkin) throws a party in the house. It's snack time as the guests become undead hors d'oeuvres and rise again as hungry soldiers of the new zombie army marching on Lionel and his girl Pacquita (the lovely Diana Penalver). New Zealand goremeister Jackson pulls out all stops in this truly outrageous sanguinary comedy, from gross-out gags of oozing puss and rotting body parts at a formal dinner to slapstick antics as Lionel tries to keep his flesh-hungry mother sedated during the funeral to the final Freudian showdown between a now-monstrous mother and the newly liberated Lionel. If you like your horror with a sense of humor or your comedy with gristle, then wade through this taboo-busting bucket of blood. --Sean Axmaker

Neither Love Nor Hate (2008-12-13)
Customer Review : 3
This movie had great gore for when it was made and the humor was probably right on track back at that time. I chuckled a few times and said "that's a lot of blood" quite a bit and though I didn't like this movie much I really didn't hate it. If I would of seen this when it was made I would of loved it no doubt but over the last few years my taste has changed in movies. The gore is over the top but it really doesn't bother me that much anymore considering I was eating while I watched it. I would say at least every three minutes there is some sort of gore scene involved in this about a hour and a half flick and close to the end about every half a second. I only rented this and probably would never buy it since its not worth more than ninety nine cents but odds are if you love horror and over the top gore you are gonna love this but it just wasn't for me. I would say rent this movie and decide if it fits your taste or not since its not for everyone including fans of horror.
ALWAYS get the unrated version (2008-11-19)

this is without a doubt the greatest horror movie of all time. never ever watch the rated version because it is missing 10 min worth of glorious little 2 to 10 second frames of absolute bloody horror goodness. without these scenes it becomes the WORST horror movie of all time and destroys all hope for a better world and not to mention a great film watching experience.
Dead Alive (2008-11-05)
Customer Review : 4
If you enjoy horror movies with some over the top splatter and humor you will most likely enjoy "Dead Alive". Peter Jackson directs one of his first entries masterfully and creates another winner in this genre. Good storyline and effects makes this worth at least a rental and for those into these horror comedies a buy. A young man, that is a "momma's boy", realizes his mother has been bitten by a Zombie monkey that causes her to want to feed on human flesh. He must go to extremes to keep his mother under control and not let word get out. Good quality DVD with good replayability. If you enjoyed this catch the "Evil Dead" movies.

A hilarious splatter comedy. (2008-10-28)

Dead-Alive (Foreign title: Braindead) is a hilarious splatter comedy with gallons of blood. literally!
The film is extremely funny and gory and this film is so gory, it contains one of the goriest scenes in movie history... THE LAWNMOWER SCENE!
With a 3,000,000 dollar budget, some of the goriest scenes look realistic. however some scenes look cheesy such as when we first see the Sumatran Rat Monkey.
Overall, Lots of laughs, Lots of blood, Lots of gore, and lots of custard. 8.4/10.
